Koh Phangan, with its wonderful tropical sand beaches its relaxed and a bit hippie atmosphere, is certainly the ideal spot for the ones looking for the lost paradise. Just laying on a hammock, at the repair granted by the palm trees shadow, or enjoying treatmentes proposed by the several local spas, are experiences that alone deserve a vacation on this island.
Beyond relaxing, this island also offers many other amusement opportunities. In the north-west side, where our Chao Pao bay is located, you can find some of the most spectacular beaches of the island, which are also ideal for snorkeling. In these bays the sea is incredibly transparent an colourful. It hides a reef which is luckily still intact. By plunging in these waters early in the morning, you will witness a colorful explosion, with corals and fish of all sizes. It should be noted that Chao Pao is considered the best snorkeling spot in Koh Phangan. An amusing activity, as an alternative to snorkeling, is fishing on board the typical "longtail" local boats. Just for few Bhats local fishermen will take you around the island and will teach you the local fishing tecniques. For sure will be famous and for long unbeaten record the 7kg mekkerel caught by our very first guests, Andrea and Arik, on April 9th 2007! For the ones looking for more sporty activities, beaches can be substantially divided into two different kinds: those with coral reefs where the water tends to be flat and without waves and are therefore ideal for kite-surfing, and wide bays with sea slight enough for surfing. However, Koh Phangan is not only synonym of beaches and marine life. The inner island too, with its hills covered by thick tropical vegetation and the many waterfalls, offers spectacular opportunities for visiting. During the hottest days, it is in fact possible to go across the endless palm tree plantations up to the Phaeng or Than Sadet waterfalls, and bath in the freshwater. At Than Sadet, the Great King Rama 5th came several times to bath into the pool at the base of the waterfall, but also the Great King Rama 7th, and the current Great King Rama 9th have visited this place. Than Sadet, due to its history and abundant wildlife has been recently declared National Park. The temples (wat) are yet another interesting option. The Wat Pho located in Ban Tai welcomes its guests in a structure that houses a reinvigorating herbal sauna. A fire burns these herbs thus creating the perfumed steam that flows into the structure. The most celebrated place for meditation is the Wat Kao Tham. Here you can learn the Buddhist meditation in the Theravadin tradition. During all the time of the meditation escape, guests must keep silent. Koh Phangan is also a great place to explore the jungle on elephants or on mountain bikes. The island has several interesting view points. There are also hidden paths to be discovered, with some of them leading to secret and enchanting view points in the middle of the jungle.
